Josh Brown, the writer behind The Pennsylvania Dutch Weekly, was born and raised in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. He received his bachelor’s degree in German from Millersville University and his Ph.D. in German and linguistics from Penn State. While at Millersville, he worked as a research assistant to C. Richard Beam and befriended many of the “interpreters” of Pennsylvania Dutch culture. He has published many articles and books on the Pennsylvania Dutch, including The Comprehensive Pennsylvania Dutch Dictionary, Schwetz mol Deitsch: An Introductory Pennsylvania Dutch Course, and Pennsylvania Germans: An Interpretive Encyclopedia. Josh is currently a professor and, in his spare time, he is a textile and paper folk artist. His folk art and craft specializes in Pennsylvania Dutch design techniques; more of that work can be found on his folk art site: The Bullfrog Inn.
